On September 10, Trebas Institute Ontario hosted “Morning at Trebas,” an on-campus event welcoming a Nigerian delegation of professionals who operate film schools, studios and TV stations.
The visit aimed to explore educational collaborations between Trebas and the delegation. It was Led by Temitayo Lore Dada, the Trade Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, and set up by Kal Szegvary, Trebas Academic Operations Manager.
Delegates toured Trebas's production facilities and facilitated networking opportunities with insights into Nigeria’s film industry. Presentations included Kal Szegvary’s shortened screenwriting masterclass, and an exciting tour of audio facilities led by audio faculty members, Jeff Wright and Kenny Nguyen. Nguyen also showcased various projects that students and alumni have worked on, including “Red Pine City,” featuring Eric Roberts, and the new Hallmark film “Cape Holly Christmas.”
Filmmaker Patricia Bewa, who had some assistance from Trebas making her first feature, shared her experiences directing “The Life Coach,” highlighting Trebas students' contributions.
The event also offered students and alumni a chance to network with the delegation and gain insights into the flourishing Nigerian film industry, often called Nollywood. Overall, both delegation members and students thoroughly enjoyed the event, engaging in great discussions and forging valuable connections.
