Trebas Institute Ontario alumni recently joined an insightful Industry Talks session featuring acclaimed cinematographer Jared Raab and Trebas Academic Operations Manager, Kal Szegvary.
Hosted at York U Motion Media Studio (YUMMS) at Cinespace Studios, the event was moderated by Assistant Professor of Cinema and Media Arts at York University, Sue Johnson.
In attendance were recent graduates from Trebas’ audio and film programs, offering them a unique opportunity to engage with and pose questions to Raab. Known for his award-winning work on BlackBerry and Operation Avalanche, Raab shared his experiences navigating production challenges, fostering leadership, and collaborating on set. He also emphasized the spirit of teamwork among York U film alumni, including himself, director Matt Johnson, and screenwriter and producer Matthew Miller.
“This event was an incredible chance for Trebas alumni to learn directly from one of Canada’s top cinematographers,” Szegvary said. “Jared Raab’s insights into teamwork and problem-solving on large-scale productions are invaluable to students looking to break into the industry.”
Following the panel discussion, attendees including Trebas alumni participated in a networking mixer—an invaluable opportunity to connect more intimately with industry professionals, gain valuable insights into the evolving world of film production, and build connections that inspire future creative endeavours.
